Well now…

As I said in my last post, I finished the Whole30 on Saturday.

It’s now Wednesday, and I have some reflections…

I knew I would have to wean myself back onto things that I hadn’t had in month, like things with sugar, and things like rice and corn (trying to continue staying away from gluten, dairy and potato, and minimise the sugar of course).

But I have to confess, I’ve gone a bit crazy. I think I just got really excited to eat again the things I had to say no to for the duration of the cleanse.

But 4 days into eating ‘what i want’ (we’re talking gelato, doritos, sushi, cookies my sister baked, birthday cakes from friends birthdays last month that i took home and froze….) and I can REALLY FEEL IT. I feel GROSS. and BLOATED. and MOODY.

Today I had the worst anxiety i’ve had for 3 weeks. My stomach feels unsettled, and just overall… I’m not sure that eating those tasty sweet things is worth it!

I mean… it seems worth it at the time… yummy tasty things… and it’s so nice to just be lazy occasionally now… but after losing 8kg and having everyone notice and compliment me, and after feeling just AMAZING even BEFORE i found out how much I lost, and now comparing that to how I feel now…

THIS SAID, I want to really branch out with what I make when I go back full paleo. and so I don’t want to start back strict until my “Well Fed” gets here (EEH THANKS TARA! <3) So until then, I’m added some occasional gluten free bread to the diet, and not saying no to things just because they have sugar in them. Also… alcohol. Mmmmm.

A random salad I threw together.
It has: torn spinach leaves, shaved fennel, diced tomato, cooked sweet potato, steamed capsicum, mushrooms, lemon juice, and responsibly fished tuna. Salt, pepper and a splash of paleo balsamic vinegar to taste.
it would have been more awesome with a creamy mayonnaise, but i’ve yet to try making my own. Cant wait for my “Well Fed” book to get here, to try out all the recipes!

Lovely medium-rare grass-fed organic rib fillet on steamed carrot, zucchini, capsicum and cauliflower, with mushroom, salt and pepper.
this was yesterdays lunch (and dinner. it’s so much easier just to cook all at once :P)
my chef husband was very impressed!

Day 27 of the Whole30.

Nearly finished!

 • Feeling great, though sadly my desire for non-paleo food is as strong as ever :(
 • I need to outline a specific plan for once this is over.
 • I’ve become much more comfortable with just up and cooking myself any random food (you know, some random combination of meat and veges). And I’ve improved dramatically at cooking meat :D
 • Smoothies are awesome fun too.
 • I don’t know why I haven’t really made a soup at all though. That seems like the easiest thing to do! haha.
 • I’ve had to stop buying nuts to snack on because I just can’t stop and it’s not a good thing.
 • I wish that I had measured and weighted myself right before I started, so that I can compare to what I am when I finish. Honestly, I’ll be super disappointed if I’m still over 70kg. I know that’s not what it’s all about, but a small part of trying this was because I just COULD NOT get into the 60s, regardless of what else I did. And they recommend this diet for when you just can’t budge that weight. SO I HOPE.
 • Going out for belated birthday drinks on Saturday night, as of midnight that night, the 30 days are over… I’m allowing myself some lenience once the 30 days are done, but I have to be super careful because my body could not react well to being inundated with things it’s been deprived of for a month. So no soda or sugar based drinks.
 • Planning to stay gluten free and lactose free for October, as well as continuing to completely cut out sugar (but allowing myself honey/maple/natural alternatives) and high-processed foods.
 • I’ll try to update more about meals and thoughts along the way :)

Panfried Blue Grenadier with Citrus Fennel salad!
And I actually made and plated this all on my own! (after sammy showed me how to do it the previous night).
The salad is amazing, I’m so excited to have discovered fennel!

Day 20!

of 30!

Feeling great, though the effort is making me weary… which makes me SO ESPECIALLY thankful for my chef husband, who seems to be having fun with the challenge of making paleo meals :D

Feeling a bit sad that I can’t have a drink on my birthday on Friday, but I guess everyone can owe me one in October. haha!

I’ve been told by two different people on two separate occasions that I’m looking ‘great’ and others have been giving me really good feedback. :)

And I meant to upload pictures of food each day… but I haven’t… so I’ll post some now :)

Day 13 of the Whole 30.

fragilefears:

I know how to better explain it to people now! It’s “Paleo”! Rather than telling people it’s “my weird new diet thing” haha.

Also I just discovered a recipe book called Well Fed, entirely paleo recipes, plus HEAPS of tips for making it an actual sustainable option for long term!

I started this Whole30 planning on just doing the 30 days. At the start, I couldn’t wait for October when I can eat processed things again (or LAZY things, as I like to call them :P)… Lately I’ve been feeling that I’d like to continue cutting out all sugar (though wean myself back onto natural sugars - honey etc) and remain gluten-free (but bring on the gluten-free bread/pasta options!)… but dairy, gimmie dairy!

However, now that I understand the paleo diet better, and have read up on it more, I really feel like it would be a great choice!

Realistically, I don’t know how closely I’ll stick to it, but I’m thinking that in November, I’ll re-stock my pantry to ONLY contain paleo ingredients. I might not eat strictly paleo when I dine out, but for every time I eat at home, I’ll be eating right :D Especially with this awesome cookbook, once I can afford it! :)

OMG Husband just gave me eggplant chips he’s been making for me and they’re DELICIOUS. Fo’ Real.

I’m so excited.

Feelings-wise, I’ve still been feeling dizzy when I stand up quickly, but I’m not getting headspins like I was last week, I haven’t had a headache, I feel great. Still not adjusted energy-wise, but between mine and the husbands work hours, I’m not helping myself very much when it comes to getting proper sleep.

Also I need to work on not snacking so much.

I was given some great feedback at Zumba last night, told by the ladies that I was looking great :D And I felt like I kept up with the really hard set of routines we did at Zumba too!

It’s hard to comment on my moods too, as there’s a LOT going on my life that makes me feel things slightly out of the ordinary, so it’s hard to compare and judge. I do feel a more able to concentrate, and I know today I felt more motivated to get things done :)

So yeah, I’ve decided: Paleo is the way to go :)

Oops, was supposed to post that here!
